#10 - Out with SCTA in with AMA, or not...
After looking through the AMA rules for the August event, it seems they leave tire selection solely up to the rider to determine which are or are not safe. So that's an option should I choose to race for an AMA record. The AMA records are largely the same as the SCTA records in regard to tech, method, and location, it just happens in August instead of October.
AMA records are where the current rocket 3 records are held by Jeremy Ragle, SCTA has no entry for M-G, M-F, or MPS-G, and MPS-F records in the 3000cc category.
The SCTA tire speed rating requirements are determined by the standing record, if there is no record, I do not see anything that talks about acceptable speed rating. There is a clause I saw where a competitor exceeding their tires rated speed on a qualifying pass, will be allowed to conduct the back up pass.
This potentially creates room for me to set an SCTA record, one which would be nearly impossible to challenge unless one were willing to fork out the cash for BST or otherwise custom wheels.
