#4 - Tires, the bane of the Rocket III

Reading through the rule changes, it seems SCTA have cracked down on the use of V rated tires at speeds over 150mph, tire requirements dictated by the standing record.

As a result, all Rocket IIIs it would seem, will need to apply for a rules deviation to challenge all current records in the 3000cc division.

There are exactly 0 tires which are rated over V that fit the Rocket III unless one were to fit the BST wheels to get into the 18” wheel market.  This is a serious blow to the viability of the Rocket III in land speed racing, and if a rules deviation is not approved, will sound the death knell for anyone hoping to set any new records.

Even the production class Rocket III record is over 150mph.

Here’s to hoping I can get a deviation, or something in writing from Metzler or Bridgestone stating their 880 and Emax are certified over 150mph....
